Alliance was founded in 2004 by a group of educators, civil rights activists, and community leaders on the belief that all children – regardless of ZIP code, income, ability, or background – are capable of achieving at high levels.
Read MoreToday, we are proudly one of the largest and most successful nonprofit public charter school networks in the nation, with 26 high-performing middle and high schools, annually serving nearly 12,500 scholars who make up the heart beat of Los Angeles’ Latinx, Black, and recent immigrant communities.
In these past 20 years, our schools have become nationally-ranked, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, the California Department of Education, the USC Rossier School of Education, U.S. News & World Report, and Stanford University’s Center for Research on Education Outcomes (CREDO).
You may wonder, with such success, why is Alliance making new plans? Well simply put, we are thinking about the next 20 years!
From the fast-paced progression of technology, to the countless questions the COVID-19 pandemic raised, our world is constantly changing. We know that we must work with our school communities to bring about new ideas to respond to evolving expectations to ensure we continue to serve those who matter the most, our scholars.
This is where Reimagine Alliance has come in. Our schools are rooted in social justice going back to our founding, and we have continued making this a priority in our long-term strategic vision, learning from the past to create a stronger future. This shared future is an enormous responsibility. It is a future where we prioritize not just academic achievements, but also the wellbeing of our entire school communities.
Alliance College-Ready Public Schools is a community of dreamers with our feet on the ground. We approach our work recognizing that we stand on the shoulders of giants, and we know Alliance will continue to be even stronger and more successful in the next 20 years because we always honor our past.
Thank you for your partnership in this exciting journey we’re on.
Forward together,
Pablo Villavicencio
As we looked back at our successes over the last 20 years, we knew we had a huge responsibility ahead of us: How to best lay the foundations of success for a new generation of Alliance learners.
Read MoreIn July 2022, we launched our long-term strategic planning process, Reimagine Alliance, to answer this call. Using Alliance’s core tenets of valuing and elevating the voices of our scholars, families, and school communities to help shape the future, it was clear that our strategic plan had to be different; it had to be more inclusive than ever before.
Over 250 stakeholders participated in interviews, focus groups, and all-day shadows, contributing their insights, investing their time, and sharing their aspirations for a next-generation Alliance. We put our words into action by genuinely “community sourcing” the brilliance of our neighborhoods.
So, in addition to engaging hundreds of Alliance staff, educators, scholars, and families, we reached out far beyond our school walls. We also asked local residents, business owners, and community organizers an important question: What is your definition of a thriving community, and how can a school help bring this vision to life?
We listened with true intent, and it turns out this was a question most had never been asked. The ideas were as diverse and inspiring as the people we talked to – from complex ideas like building campuses with open green spaces for the entire community to use, to simple but equally powerful ideas like having scholars adopt a local park to keep it clean and beautiful as part of the curriculum.
Whatever the source of the experience, insight, or idea, several important values rose to the surface: Our communities believe in high expectations, the joy of learning, the need to become a more equitable society, and making sure we are in it for the long haul, always keeping our eyes on future generations.
We’re excited about our new, long-term strategic vision – one that is inspired by the aspirations of our entire community. As we embark on our next 20 years, we can’t wait to start this bold, new journey.
I hope you’ll join in on the excitement because we know we can’t do this without you. Onward and upward as OneAlliance.
Sincerely,
Jass Stewart
